The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Canberra manages one of China's most important bilateral relationships in the Asia-Pacific. Australia is a major trading partner — China is Australia's largest export market, principally for iron ore, coal, LNG, agricultural products, education services and tourism. The embassy coordinates five consulates general across Australia — in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide. The Chinese community in Australia is one of the largest diaspora populations in the country, and Chinese students form the largest international student cohort at Australian universities.

The Economic and Commercial Section promotes bilateral trade. Australia exports iron ore, coal, LNG, gold, beef, wine, dairy, wool, seafood and education services to China. Chinese investment in Australian mining, real estate, infrastructure and agriculture is substantial.

Programmi Culturali ed Educativi

The Cultural Section and Education Office promote Chinese culture, language and academic exchange. Confucius Institutes at Australian universities support Chinese language education. The Chinese New Year festival in Sydney is one of the largest outside Asia.
